About Us

We Love Our Generational Farm

We are just a handful of fortunate people in a long line of men and women who have worked this beautiful patch of land in McMinn County, Tennessee. Dr. Thomas Trew moved to the area in 1832 from Kentucky during Andrew Jackson’s presidency. Thomas raised his family here and expanded his land holdings. His grandson, JW Trew, started the Trew General Store in 1890, which his son inherited and managed until he died in 1996. It is down the road from Windswept and on the National Register of Historic Places. JW had nine children in the late 1800s and they all spent their lives here growing and actively supporting this small agricultural community. They operated the local cotton gin, flour mill, sawmill, and dairy, in addition to the only source of gossip, boots, and hoop cheese known as “the Store”.

In 1979, JW’s grandson, Mort, moved his young family back here with his wife, Susan, and a small but special herd of black Angus - the first crop from their Y Plantation bull from Chesapeake, Virginia. This herd, along with the herd Mort’s father kept on the farm, became today’s two herds of approximately 130 head, on Windswept Farm.

In 2022, Mort and his oldest son, Todd, bought two Red Wagyu bulls to expand the Angus herd and offer this exceptional beef for your family’s table.

Mort and his family have devoted themselves to caring for these herds - by achieving TN Master Beef qualification and a Best Quality Management Producer through the University of TN Extension office, to attending a multitude of continuing education classes and conventions.

We love our farm, and it shows in the beef we produce - your southern source for farm-to-table premium beef.
